2022 has been a big year for Laketown Riots. Our debut self-titled album was released in April, followed by the single “Tyke” on June 3 and in September, another single “Heavy Traffic.” This song was an Indie Folk best seller on Bandcamp thanks to you Laketowners. LTR’s front-man, Dmitri Glover had both injuries and illnesses that forced him to stop his touring for the year.After listening to some of the songs that had been recorded throughout the year. It was decided that a few of them were really strong, and that they could be an EP.

The title track opens the EP. Based on the figure who made substantial money selling papal indulgences, the song departs from history. The lyrics paint the picture of a rider emerging the desert selling Forgiveness, and telling locals that he’s the only one that can grant it. The song features a native flute, and the slide guitar, a staple sound for LTR.

If "Tetzel" has a desert feel, then the next track, "Thin Ice" could be set in the dead of winter. It starts with a classical guitar, gradually joined by a light rhythm section. The Starlight Ballroom Orchestra (collaborators on “Heavy Traffic”) lend their strings again for a departure from LTR’s normal sound. The lyrics are from the perspective of a woman trapped in a relationship with a self destructive man. This abruptly cuts to the next track: a brief excerpt of a banter between Glover and his wife.

The mood darkens again with “By the Roadside” a ballad about an abandoned pet (the “Tyke” songwriter returning to the theme of animals). Only the piano is featured, a rare moment for LTR.

The EP closes with “Sir Galahad” In true LTR fashion it has guitar, bass, cajon, and banjo; as well as the combo organ, the latest addition to LTR’s arsenal. The cryptic lyrics are about capturing that bittersweet moment when children grow up and no longer need their parents.
